Transportation engineering and planning students will be in heated competition when they square off at the ITE Collegiate Traffic Bowl during the 2011 Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) Annual Meeting and Exhibit. The competition will take place Tuesday, August 16 from 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m., Room 220, at the America’s Center, St. Louis, Missouri, USA.
The 2011 ITE Collegiate Traffic Bowl is a competition amongst ITE student chapters, similar to the TV game shows such as the College Bowl or Jeopardy, but with transportation planning and engineering topics for the clues, questions, and answers. This year’s competition is the second annual event for ITE’s Collegiate Traffic Bowl.
Student teams from 58 universities in the United States and Canada competed in section and district-level events for a chance to compete in the Grand Championship. More than 175 student members of ITE comprised the teams that have competed over the past six months.
The nine District Champion teams that will be competing in St. Louis are as follows:
- University of Connecticut
- University of Delaware
- Western Michigan University
- University of Kansas
- North Carolina State University
- Brigham Young University
- University of Toronto
- Texas A&M University (defending 2010 champion)
- University of Florida
The team winning the 2011 Grand Championship will receive $2,000 (US).
The objectives of the ITE Collegiate Traffic Bowl are to encourage students to become more active members in ITE, to enhance their knowledge of the traffic/transportation engineering and planning profession and of ITE itself, and to strengthen the programs of the ITE student chapters.
