Trip Generation Discussion at ITE Headquarters and New Community

On May 21st and 22nd, a group of transportation professionals met at ITE Headquarters to review the 2nd edition of the Trip Generation Handbook and make recommendations for the 3rd edition.  These professionals looked at the results of a survey that included questions on improvements, clarifications, organization and new sources of information that should be included in the updated Handbook.

As a result of the meeting, the group developed the following preliminary list of the content focus areas to be addressed in the revision process:

  4. Urban/Suburban/Rural Trip Generation Rates/Urban Infill
  5. Person Trip Estimation Methodology (how to collect it; how do you use it; how do you refine your impact study thresholds based on this new information; define purpose for data)
  6. Ped/Bike Trip Generation Data
  7. Data Collection Procedures (all modes)
  8. Validating Rates for Local Application
  9. Average Rate vs. Equation Procedures/Statistics/Significant Figures
  10. OTISS (Online Traffic Impact Study Software) Application Guidelines
  11. Freight Trip Generation
  12. Communication with Public/Presentations/How to Review Studies
  13. Update Glossary
  14. Use of Travel Survey Data for Site Specific Applications

Application of Trip Generation Community
Additionally, we have set up a new community called Application of Trip Generation.  This community is open to all who'd like to join and discuss various aspects of trip generation.
