ITE Community Blog Writing 101

By Mr. Zach Pleasant posted 09-21-2011 01:58 PM

Creating a blog entry on ITE Community is a fairly simple process.  The term blog is somewhat misleading here as what you are really creating is a blog entry.  Instead of starting a blog that contains many entries on a specific topic, you can share your thoughts on any topic and associate each entry with any community you belong to.  Blog entries are a great way to share your ideas across communities.

To create a blog entry:

  1. Mouse over the Blogs tab and select Create New Blog.
  2. Title your blog entry.
  3. Enter your text in the editor.
  4. Associate your blog with a community (optional).
  5. Select who can read your blog entry (public, authenticated, ITE members, contacts).*
  6. Select who can comment on your blog entry (authenticated, ITE members, contacts, no comments).*
  7. Publish or Save for Later.

To enhance your blog entry, you can update your text in the editor with many of the same functions as Word.  You can also use the Document Manager to upload and link files like so: Designing Walkable Urban Thoroughfares: A Context Sensitive Approach: An ITE Recommended Practice.  Or you can link to another file you've already added to the Community Resources.
You can use the Image Manager to insert images or video:

Keep in mind that you can always come back and edit or delete one of your blog entries. You can also keep track of the number of times it's been viewed, commented on and rated.

Please let me know if you have any questions about ITE Community's blogging capabilities.

*Currently, Authenticated and ITE Members are the same group.
