Scott Walker, P.E. (M)
is a project manager for Toyota Motor North America, and Lindsay Walker, P.E., PTOE, AICP (M) is a senior transportation engineer/planner for HMB Professional Engineers in Lexington, KY, USA.

I had the great pleasure to get to know Scott and Lindsay over the past two years as I traveled to the Southern District. You will be hard pressed to find a couple any more engaging and welcoming. I still owe them big time for personally driving their Kentucky bourbon supply to the Southern District Annual Meeting in Mobile, AL, USA when Scott was President, and opening their room to ITE volunteers. Passion for living life to the fullest with their family has spilled over to ITE. I was able to meet their children who have had maximum exposure to our profession. Both Scott and Lindsay have been Presidents of Kentucky ITE, and both have reinvented their careers in the transportation world and are passionate about our profession and their family.

Scott recently completed his tour of duty on the Southern District Board serving as President in 2018. He is a leader and go-to guy with a unique ability to seek out people for opportunities and engage them. Scott jumped at the idea of the first Student Leadership Summit for the Southern District which was successfully implemented by Southern leadership the following year. I saw him in action building stronger communication between Sections and District, recruiting others for tasks (like newsletter tasks), always being quick to recognize and encourage others, building greater engagement by listening to members, and views participation in District meeting like an annual family reunion.

Lindsay is both welcoming and hospitable and always makes time for conversation that sparks ideas by creating a conducive environment for dialogue. Her unique ability to communicate helps make the profession better through her collaboration, motivation, dedication, and honesty. Her vigorous investment in leadership has resulted in elected positions of ITE to include committees, LeadershipITE, and involvement with APA events. Most recently, she has transitioned from supporting ITE’s Southern District Annual Meeting as their committee chair to overseeing multiple committees as co-chair of Member Services. Her role in meeting planning will continue though as she helps co-lead the 2022 Southern District meeting in Louisville, KY. Lindsay is the reason their meetings are so successful and inclusive.

I encourage you to seek out this dynamic duo, even though we will not be meeting in New Orleans, LA, USA. Their welcoming personality will make you feel like you are talking with long-time friends. You can chat about their career paths, leadership, and how complex family life is. Their joy for their kids and the activities that surround them is unshakable. Get ready for experiences from scouting to swimming, kid sports to theme parks, going to all the major league ballparks to Wildcat sports (they bleed Kentucky blue). Perhaps when we can all gather some day in the future, we will play a board game, share a drink, trade ideas on how we can shape our communities together, and better learn from sharing with others how to achieve the balance of leadership and family in our lives.
