There are engineers, planners, project managers, public information officers and persons who need to communicate with the public, their members and agencies that are still hesitant to use or unfamiliar with capabilities of social media tools.

We understand. That is why the ITE Advocacy Committee is sponsoring and hosting a free webinar for ITE members on April 30th from 3:00-4:30 p.m. Eastern called Taking the Plunge into Social Media for Your Next Transportation Project. Speaker, Joanna Kervin, Director, Third Part, Planning and Property, Toronto Transit Commission will share the following objectives:

1) Identify social media tools and their potential role in a communication strategy for transportation projects.
2) Define objectives and benefits of using social media to promote, advocate for, and support communications for transportation projects.
3) Identify various audiences, stakeholders, partners, local businesses, residents, and the general public in terms of their needs and use of social media.

Another useful resource is the article from the March 2014 ITE Journal: "Social Media Update". Regular columns on social media updates are now included in ITE Journal. If you have a suggestion for a social media update topic, please contact Michelle Birdsall at mbirdsall@ite.org.
