A208: Using the ATC 5401 Application Programming Interface Standard to Leverage ITS Infrastructure Web Pilot

The Advanced Transportation Controller (ATC) family of standards provides an open architecture hardware and software platform that can support a wide variety of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) field applications including traffic management, safety, security, and other applications. These standards are characterized by their modularity, support of multiple and concurrent application programs, and design to facilitate the adoption of new technologies. There are four standards within the ATC program: the ATC Standard, the Model 2070 Standard, the Application Programming Interface (API) Standard, and the ITS Cabinet Standard. The ATC Standard and API Standards can be used with all of the major transportation field cabinet systems available today.
The focus of this module is on the API Standard. The module details the API Standard’s features and capabilities, it discusses how the API Standard works with other ITS standards, and it provides deployment considerations and migration strategies for users. This module also provides guidance on how to write requirements for custom applications that are built to run on API software.

ITS ePrimer Overview Webinar

This webinar provides an overview of the contents of the ITS ePrimer—a soon-to-be-released, innovative new Web resource intended to build upon the knowledge and expertise of current and emerging traffic engineering and ITS professionals and educators. This resource updates and significantly expands upon the widely used Intelligent Transportation Primer published in 2000. It is reflective of significant technological advances that have occurred since the development and publication of the 2000 Primer. It also incorporates innovations in the way that learning materials are delivered, including an easy to use electronic format with interactive Web links and videos.
