Course Description:

This one-hour briefing provides an overview of the contents of the ITS ePrimer—a soon-to-be-released, innovative new Web resource intended to build upon the knowledge and expertise of current and emerging transportation engineering and ITS professionals and educators. This resource updates and significantly expands upon the widely used Intelligent Transportation Primer published in 2000. It reflects upon significant technological advances and state-of-the-art and best practices that have occurred since the development and publication of the 2000 Primer. It also incorporates innovations in the way that learning materials are delivered, including an easy-to-use electronic format, with interactive Web links and videos. The webinar includes an overview of 14 Web-based modules and ancillary materials with details on how to access the information. Upon release, the ITS ePrimer and related materials will be available free of charge to transportation practitioners and educators. This resource was developed by the USDOT, ITE, and ITS America with input from the American Public Transportation Association (APTA). The project was funded by the USDOT, ITS Professional Capacity Building (PCB) Program.

Learning Objectives:

  • Provide a general overview of the content and audiences expected to use the ITS ePrimer and related materials;
  • Describe how the ITS ePrimer may be applied to practitioner and academic environments;
  • Discuss the innovative electronic format with interactive content and proposed process for updating and maintaining this resource; and
  • Identify where and how to access the information when the ITS ePrimer and related materials are made available.
