By Ms. Michelle Birdsall posted 04-30-2013 01:30 PM

The National Bike to School Day celebration is on May 8, 2013. With more than 850 events already registered at www.walkbiketoschool.org from all 50 states and the District of Columbia, the National Center for Safe Routes to School aims to shatter the registration mark of 947 set in last year's inaugural event.

Bike to School Day event registration is free and open to all individuals and/or organizations planning a 2013 Bike to School Day event in the United States. Registering a Bike to School Day event provides organizers access to a variety of downloadable materials. Registrants will also be entered into drawings for bicycle parking racks. Register now at www.walkbiketoschool.org.

Not sure how to start? Check out the Getting Started Guide or watch the Bike to School event planning webinar, “Let’s Get Pumped!

National Bike to School Day events raise awareness of the need to create safer routes for bicycling and walking and emphasize the importance of issues such as increasing physical activity among children, bicyclist and pedestrian safety, reducing traffic congestion and concern for the environment. The events build connections between families, schools and the broader community.

Take a look at the “Who’s Biking” Map  to see who’s planning to ride and roll to school in this nationwide event. Please encourage others to join the celebration!
