Getting Ready for Connected Vehicles
Sponsored by the ITE Management and Operations/ITS Council, this session provided an overview of the benefits of multimodal vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-roadside communication capabilities with the development of associated infrastructure to agencies managing transportation networks.
Kate Hartman, Dynamic Mobility Applications Program Manager for the ITS Joint Program Office, discussed the Connected Vehicle research efforts taking place at U.S. DOT RITA in terms of applications. She described the Basic Safety Message being developed based upon DSRC and provided some suggestions for ways that ITE members can become involved through upcoming stakeholder meetings. She also suggested that members explore the Open Source Portal when it becomes available online in the coming months. More information is available at www.its.dot.gov/dma/index.htm.
