Happy June everyone! As we welcome the onset of June, I’d like to take a moment to address our younger colleagues. However, all are invited to lend an ear!
Dear Younger Members,
In our shared pursuit as transportation professionals and enthusiasts, we are united by a common passion for shaping the future of safe mobility. Our field is dynamic, ever evolving, and filled with opportunities for innovation and impact. Within ITE, you have a unique platform to learn, connect, and contribute to the advancement of transportation engineering and planning.
Today, I want to extend a heartfelt invitation to each of you, regardless of age, to become active and engaged participants within our ITE community. Your voice, your ideas, and your energy are invaluable assets that can help propel our profession forward and effect positive change. Here’s why being active and engaged in ITE matters:
Networking and Collaboration: ITE provides a vibrant network of transportation professionals from diverse backgrounds, interests, and experiences. By actively participating in ITE Section events, Committees, Councils, and initiatives, you can expand your network, forge meaningful connections, and collaborate with peers on projects and ideas that inspire you.
Professional Development: ITE offers a wealth of resources, including webinars, workshops, and publications, designed to support your professional growth and development. By engaging with these resources and seeking out learning opportunities, you can enhance your skills, stay informed about industry trends, and advance your career.
Leadership Opportunities: ITE values and encourages leadership at all levels and ages, including among younger members. By getting involved in ITE Committees, Councils, Student Chapters, or local Sections, you can gain valuable leadership experience for future volunteer and work roles, build confidence, and make a positive impact on your peers and the profession.
Advocacy and Influence: As transportation professionals, we have a responsibility to advocate for safe, sustainable, and equitable transportation solutions. By actively participating in ITE advocacy efforts, you can help shape policies, influence decision-makers, and contribute to the creation of innovative transportation systems.
Inspiration and Mentorship: Within ITE, you will find mentors, role models, and peers who can inspire and support you on your professional journey. By engaging with experienced professionals and seeking mentorship or Committee membership opportunities, you can gain valuable insights, guidance, and encouragement that will help you navigate challenges and achieve your career goals.
In closing, I urge you to seize the opportunities that ITE offers, particularly for young members, and leave your mark on the future of transportation. Whether you’re a student just embarking on your journey in the field or a young (or older) professional eager to make a difference, your involvement in ITE is essential and meaningful.
Looking ahead to July, our International Annual Meeting will feature several activities and sessions tailored to the interests of younger members. I encourage you to register for the Annual Meeting in Philadelphia today. Stay safe, be well, and remain curious! TTFN
