In an effort to share alternative perspectives on sustainable design, ITE's Sustainability Task Force in partnership with Greenroads Foundation will soon be offering a web briefing titled "Greenroads: A Sustainability Rating System for Roadways". The web briefing will be held on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. EST.

Greenroads is a collection of sustainability best practices that relate to roadway design and construction. It provides a sustainability rating system which is applicable to all roadway projects including new, reconstruction and rehabilitation and bridges. Participants in this webinar can learn about ways that Greenroads can benefit their projects/communities by recognizing sustainable roadway projects and by promoting sustainability education for transportation infrastructure.

A few key things that Greenroads provides that can benefit the transportation professionals who deal with sustainability issues are:

  • A holistic way of considering roadway sustainability
  • A defined and quantitative means to assess roadway sustainability
  • A tool for decision-makers, agencies, consultants and contractors that enables informed design and construction decisions regarding sustainability.

Participants in the webinar will:

  • Be introduced to Greenroads, the premier rating system for roadway sustainability around the world
  • Learn about how some public agencies have successfully tested and applied Greenroads to their standard practice
  • Learn why agencies are using Greenroads and where the rating system has added value to their projects
  • Listen to the experience of a design consultant working on several Greenroads projects
  • Hear some tips and tricks for applying Greenroads successfully.
