Today, Thursday, November 8, kicks of the fall 2012 International Board of Direction Meeting. ITE leadership have descended on Washington, DC to collaborate with one another in order to form a more perfect union... or association, anyway.

At this meeting, we welcome our newest board members, who will officially begin their three-year term on January 1, 2013. They are:

We will also be saying goodbye to a number of directors who have put in a great deal of work and effort over their terms. I am fairly confident that this is not the last we'll see of these folks. A great big thank you to the following members for their many contributions:

One of the greatest benefits of ITE membership is the opportunity you have to grow as a professional and a leader in the industry. Here are a few ways you can get involved, and enhance your resume while you're at it:

  • Get involved in one (or more!) of eleven Special Interest Councils. These councils develop and deliver technical products and services, actively contributing to the growing body of knowledge and advancement in each of the many transportation disciplines

  • Volunteer with ITE to develop your leadership skills, build professional credibility and make an impact on the industry. Opportunities include writing an article for ITE Journal, reviewing manuscripts, writing an issue paper, speaking or presiding at a meeting and much more.

  • Get involved locally in ITE Districts, Sections and Chapters to put you on the path to becoming a leader. You may serve on committees, attend or develop meetings or events, participate in the leadership, write or edit the newsletter, or help with technical papers or reports. Student Chapters offer mentoring opportunities for non-students and established professionals.

  • Student leaders are encouraged to participate in their Student Chapter. This is a great way for students to get involved with ITE and the industry.
  • Ready to take your leadership to the next level? Consider running for Vice President of the International Board of Direction. Information for 2014 isn't ready just yet, but to give you an idea of the process, check out the 2013 packet or email Carol MacDougall for more information.
ITE is also in the midst of two major leadership initiatives—1) the ITE Leadership Program, a suite of leadership training modules now available on CD-ROM in the bookstore; and 2) Leadership ITE—a year-long program for ITE members who aspire to greater leadership in their profession. This program will help the member grow and develop as a leader in the transportation profession; build an industry-wide professional network; give back to our profession through volunteer service; and help envision the future of ITE. Look at for the launch of this program in the near future.
