On Thursday, August 29 ITE Executive Director and CEO Thomas Brahms joined approximately sixty other invitees to participate in the "Health and Transportation in the Built Environment" roundtable at the White House. The executive roundtable discussion was held jointly by the White House Office of Public Engagement, the U.S. Department of Transportation, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
In his blog Fast Lane, U.S. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood explains that the invitational was an opportunity for a diverse group of experts "to talk about how to build
communities that support healthy, active living through coordinated
transportation and health policies." He points out that the roundtable "featured representatives from
the health, wellness, livability, transportation planning, public
transportation, walking and biking, complete streets, accessibility,
environmental, and injury
prevention communities."
