A big thank you goes out to the
Atlanta chapter of the Young Professionals in Transportation (YPT) for hosting ITE attendees both young and young-at-heart for a fun-filled happy hour at
White Oak Kitchen and Cocktails on Sunday, August 12. Not only did the happy hour provide a chance for ITE and YPT members to connect with one another, but it also provided attendees an opportunity to hear from one of Atlanta's most inspirational young professionals,
Ryan Gravel.
Ryan first conceived of what is now known as the
Atlanta BeltLine while a grad student at Georgia Tech in 1999. His master's thesis was the original vision for the catalyst infrastructure project that is not only transforming the physical shape of the city, but also the way Atlanta thinks about its future. The ambitious project is described as having "evolved from an idea, to a grassroots
campaign of local citizens and civic leaders, into a robust new vision
of an Atlanta dedicated to an integrated approach to transportation,
land use, greenspace, and sustainable growth."
Ryan's story shows us what can we can all accomplish with a little determination, ingenuity, and hard work. See Ryan give a presentation on the Beltline
here.
