Modern GIS Applications in the Automotive Industry.

Over the past year in the news, Google successfully created a vehicle that was driven by a computer. As well the state of California legalized it allowing for vehicles to be driven at high speed using GIS applications.

As the future of the world will be more automated, the ethical considerations of driving must be discussed. Automated cars are completely different creatures as compared to automated subway trains. There are no tracks to keep the vehicle from going off course or hitting someone.

The ethical arguement goes. Would you be comfortable be driven by a computer around? We have all heard of stories of drivers following their GPS and driving into lakes.

However in the past few year, the automotive technology has vastly improved to a high degree. The question is, if automotive technology has improved to such a high degree in which human driving skills are not needed, would you be comfortable to use that vehicle.

In today's world there are still some kinks to be worked out and the technology has not reached a feasible or affordable option to the general public.

However the sheer amount of benefits automated vehicles can bring to improving the quality of life for people is surely something to look forward to in the future.
