LeadershipITE Lighting the Way

The Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) has invested in the development of LeadershipITE, a comprehensive year-long leadership development program. It is intended to enhance the profession’s leadership skill set via workshops, collaborative projects and transportation policy engagement. The diversity of the participants will be critical to the success of the program and the longer term leadership needs of the profession. The program seeks to have participants from all ITE districts, the public and the private sectors as well as age, gender and ethnic diversity.

ITE Board of Direction and the LeadershipITE committee are heartened by the vocal and monetary displays of support for the program from the membership. The general membership has provided more than $6,000 to support LeadershipITE. ITE Districts and Sections are actively supporting the program; encouraging applications; providing program seed money; and tuition assistance via scholarships. They have lit the flame.

The LeadershipITE Committee has made progress in generating support for the program. However, additional startup funding and scholarships are still needed to ensure the participants, particularly those from the public sector, are appropriately represented in LeadershipITE.

ITE thanks Transoft Solutions for their contribution and looks forward to engaging more private sector support for this leadership program that can serve as a platform for their future torchbearers.
