Ashley Lickliter, P.E., is a Vice President with Kimley-Horn in Richmond, Virginia.

While I met Ashley at prior ITE events, I really got to see her in action last year at the Southern District-Mid Colonial District Joint Annual Meeting in Virginia. She is a leader with grace, energy and passion and is making it possible for the next generation of transportation planners and engineers to achieve the gender balance that once was not believed possible in our industry. Ashley is a driving force behind her workplace’s initiative called LIFT (Lasting Impact for Tomorrow) where hosts roundtable discussions and webinars for women employees on various management and career topics. A self-professed “Proud Momma Bird”, she lives staff development and revels in watching her teammates grow and establish their own successful careers.

Similar to my career, Ashley has worked for one company and has established herself as a valuable resource on program and contract management of traffic operations, multimodal transportation, ITS and transit design projects in the USA. She grew up in Virginia, attended Virginia Tech and is committed to Shaping Her Community. Ashley recently completed her role as President of the Virginia Section ITE and has been active in the Southern District. Her leadership has benefited others and last year she was recognized by Engineering News Record (ENR) as one of the 20 very best young leaders across the country as part of their top 20 Under 40 contest. Upon hearing of the ENR recognition her co-workers shared that they could not have honored a more perfect engineer. She is able to brighten a room by just saying “hello”. ITE’s future is brighter due to engaged, active professionals like Ashley.

While we may not be meeting in New Orleans this summer, you should find opportunities (maybe virtually) to take time to engage with Ashley. Not only about her professional passions such as BRT and ITS but the time she dedicates to spending time with family and friends, including travel to be with them from NYC or California. She is willing to try anything once from unusual cuisine to home improvement projects. She is an avid “Hokie” fan and adores four-legged friends. She loves to travel and probably has filled her passport with unfamiliar destinations (most recently Iceland). She may wrap her wing around you and help your career take off.
