Join Us in New Orleans

Finally! After 3 years of fits and starts in trying to hold the ITE Annual Meeting and Exhibition in New Orleans, LA, USA, it is finally going to happen in 2022. While it has been great to start reconnecting with members at District meetings this spring, nothing replaces the opportunity to draw members from across ITE together at the Annual Meeting and Exhibition. We have a strong line-up of plenary session speakers from the federal, state, and local level, including U.S. Deputy Transportation Secretary Polly Trottenberg and Louisiana Department of Transportation Secretary and AASHTO President Dr. Shawn Wilson, who will share their perspectives on key transportation topics facing the nation.

The outstanding response to our call for abstracts, combined with a great set of sessions and workshop proposals from our Councils and Committees, has resulted in a strong program with 140+ speakers in 40 podium sessions and 50+ poster presentations covering the breadth and depth of topics facing the profession today. Check out the Annual Meeting insert starting on page 24 for more details.

And there’s more! Our sold-out exhibit hall includes more than 50 industry solution providers bringing attendees cutting-edge products and services. We will recognize industry and ITE leaders, including the 2022 LeadershipITE class, at our awards luncheon. We have three competitions—the Traffic Bowl Grand Championship, the Transportation Equity Sandbox Competition, and the National Operations Center of Excellence Transportation Technology Tournament—that will be taking place during the conference. And, we will offer five technical tours, giving participants the opportunity to see transportation innovations in New Orleans, as well as nine before- and after conference workshops so that attendees can maximize their learning opportunities.

And, as important as the formal sessions are, we know that a big part of the value and fun of attending an Annual Meeting is the opportunity to connect with old friends, meet industry leaders, and expand your professional network. Things will get started at our New Orleans-themed Opening Reception in the Exhibit Hall on Sunday night. Drop in at one of our many Council and Committee meetings throughout the conference to connect with professionals in your areas of interest. Join student, younger member, LeadershipITE, and Women of ITE affinity group events on Monday evening. Finally, mingle with attendees at the Tuesday evening reception before heading out on the town.

There is something for everyone at this year’s ITE Annual Meeting and Exhibition. We have worked hard to keep registration rates down despite inflation and offer discounts for public agency members, students, retirees, and those staying at the conference hotel. Don’t forget to register by June 10 to take advantage of our early bird registration
rates. You can find all of the details on the meeting, including hotel reservations and registration, at www.ite.org.

I am very excited to have the opportunity to bring ITE’s community of transportation professionals back together again, in person, in 2022. What are you most excited about for this year’s meeting? Let me know on the ITE e-Community or on Twitter: @JeffPaniatiITE. I look forward to seeing you in New Orleans!

This is from the director's message in the June issue of ITE Journal.
