ITE Public Agency Council Addresses Public Sector Needs and Challenges

The ITE Public Agency Council is one of three employer-type councils available for participation by ITE members.  These councils serve as forums for the discussion of the common interests as well as a vehicle for support of programs and projects that advance council members and the transportation profession.  The Public Agency Council is for those ITE members with an interest in identifying, developing, and delivering relevant products on management, leadership, organizational, institutional, and related issues affecting their employment in or interaction with the public sector.  Even though the name is "public agency," all ITE members are welcome.

Council activities include the sponsorship and development of sessions on public agency issues at ITE meetings, publishing newsletters, compiling survey of practice information, and working on issues relevant to members working in or with the public sector.  Recent topics addressed by the Council include responding to changing driver behavior; innovative solutions to increase trips taken by walking, cycling, and transit; and MPO coordination and planning area reform.  They also recently sponsored a session at the ITE 2016 Annual Meeting entitled "Maintain Your Reputation by Communicating Effectively."

Do you have ideas and time to contribute?  The current chair of the Public Agency Council is Jeffrey Young with McHenry County in Illinois.  The Council is always looking for new members and volunteers to lead new efforts from the perspective of the public sector.  If you are interested in learning more, let us know!
