ITE has two webinar featuring case studies on what two communities - Knox County, TN and Salt Lake City, UT - have done to increase pedestrian and bicycle mobility and safety. These webinars are developed by the ITE Pedestrian and Bicycle Standing Committee.

On February 18, "Methods for Prioritizing Pedestrian Improvements for School Walks" showcases the partnership between engineers, the local school system, and health departments in Knox County to focus on the county highway system. The learning objectives for this webinar are:

  • To develop new prioritization metrics for school-area pedestrian improvements based on Knox County's experience;
  • To recognize the types of data required to produce walk trip estimates for school trips; and
  • To interpret walk trip estimate data and make recommendations for types and location of pedestrian improvements.

The fee to participate is $100 members and $125 non-members. Participants receive 1.5 PDHs.

The webinar "Streetscape Level Changes: Protected Bike Lanes" to be held on February 23 will feature the success of Salt Lake City, UT in becoming the first community to construct a protected intersection. Presenters will address design decisions/adaptions from the national bikeway manuals, public input and research, business community response, and the challenges of constructing separated bike lanes using federal funds. The learning objectives of webinar are:

  • To review how the national bikeway manuals are used in developing a context-sensitive approach project design;
  • To identify ways in which ADA accommodations should be considered as part of innovative design;
  • To describe ways to adapt a project based on business and public input and benefits of door-to-door outreach;
  • To identify design considerations for a separate bikeway including traffic volume/speed, parking, driveways, and intersections.

The fee to participate is $100 members and $125 non-members. Participants receive 1.5 PDHs.
