Connected Vehicle Infrastructure Technology Demonstration in DC

As a technical project specialist at ITE I moderate webinars conducted by subject matter experts and transportation professionals we subcontract to develop courses for the USDOT Professional Capacity Building program that provides free recorded webinars on fundamentals and emerging transportation concepts, such as Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) ITS Standards for Project Managers and  Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) ITS Standards for Project Managers. I had an opportunity today to experience what all the buzz was about connected vehicles at the Connected Vehicle Infrastructure Technology Demonstration sponsored by the Washington Auto Show and the U.S. Department of Transportation in conjunction with events at the 2017 Washington, DC Auto Show, which was held at the RFK stadium.

See this link on how to register for the January 25th demos:  http://campv2itechreview.com/

Upon onsite registration and a cup of hot coffee, Carl Andersen proceeded to do a short presentation explaining what the Crash Avoidance Metrics Partners LLC (CAMP) Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) Consortium was and the three safety demonstrations I was going to experience.

I then proceeded to the RFK parking lot where Dana Schuckman (a former race car driver and driver’s safety instructor) took me for a drive in an Infinity automobile to experience the Reduced Speed Zone Warning /Lane Closure Warning (RSZW/LC), the Curve Speed Warning (CSW), and Red Light Violation Warning (RLVW).

I found the demonstration informative on actually seeing these systems in the vehicle and the road-side unit (RSU) interact and the experience was quite fun as well. In general the demonstration took a little less than 1 hour and I encourage you to take advantage of this event.
