GPS (Global Positioning System) as defined by Merriam Webster dictionary is a navigational system using satellite signals to fix the location of a radio receiver on or above the earth’s surface or it is a radio system that uses signals from satellites to tell you where you are and to give you directions to other places. GPS is generally thought of as a portable device found on the dashboard of a vehicle, guiding the driver with step by step directions. However, navigation is only one aspect of GPS.

GPS is an extremely valuable business tool for construction companies. It helps them manage expensive machinery or equipment, from towers and mobile cranes to earth moving equipment, service vehicles, and heavy trucks. It is often used for all types of assets that are worth tracking, i.e. generators and compressors.

Not fewer than many construction businesses are now involved in tackling industrial challenges with GPS tracking devices for construction equipment. These challenges i.e. ageing workforce, the slowdown in productivity, and complex projects, constitutes in declined growth and expansion of construction industry.

Businesses that installed GPS tracking devices for construction equipment are growing and expanding in performance and productivity. Project managers are ordering their daily operations by setting up a tool called “Geofencing”. Geofencing is a powerful construction GPS tracking tool that allows managers to get reports on when vehicles when vehicles leave, and how long vehicles spend on site. As a result, there is timeliness, efficiency, and effectiveness in projects delivery. Geofencing also help managers to ensure that workers are on site during stipulated hours, reduces time sheet fraud, and hold material delivery accountable.

GPS tracking device for construction equipment also helps to improve maintenance of construction equipment as well as monitor and protect them. With this maintenance, monitoring, protection planning in place, fleets can schedule service based on usage patterns and can receive alerts for engine issues. This helps mechanics fix small issues promptly which might lead to major equipment breakdown.

In conclusion, application of GPS tracking device in construction equipment makes possible an efficient, effective, and productive performance of the construction equipment.
