ITE FIU Student Chapter Co-sponsors Workshop on Connected Vehicles, Automated Vehicles, and Transportation System Management and Operations

The Connected Vehicles (CV), Automated Vehicles (AV), and Transportation System Management and Operations (TSMO) workshop was conducted on October 24, 2016 at the Florida International University (FIU) Lehman Center for Transportation Engineering (LCTR) in Miami, FL, USA. Co-sponsored by LCTR, the FIU ITE Student Chapter, and the FIU Women in Transportation Student Chapter, the workshop discussed the national and  state efforts and issues related to CV, AV, and TSMO.

The workshop began with presentations by Omar Meitin, FDOT District 6 Traffic Operations Engineer; Robert Arnold, Acting Associate Administrator, FHWA Office of Operations (HOP); Gummada Murthy, Associate Program Director of Operations in AASHTO; John Nisbet, Director/State Traffic Engineer, Washington Department of Transportation; Siva Narla, ITE Transportation Technology Senior Director, and a private sector presenter, John Ringler from Econolite. The second half of the workshop was devoted to a round table discussion with the attendees. The workshop provided an opportunity to review the national trends and South Florida’s perspectives regarding the implementation of CV/AV and TSMO. It was attended by representatives of agencies in South Florida and their consultants including Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District 6, FDOT District 4, Miami-Dade MPO, Miami-Dade Expressway Authority, Florida Turnpike Enterprise, Miami-Dade Public Work Department, City of Miami Beach, and City of Doral, in addition to FIU faculty and students.
