The PeopleForBikes National Bike Challenge kicks off May 1, 2016. ITE members are invited to participate in this online ride tracking challenge. The National Bike Challenge is a U.S. nationwide event uniting thousands of current bicyclists and encouraging new riders. It is a free and easy way to challenge yourself, your colleagues, and your community to ride more while competing on a local, state, and national level. In 2015, more than 90,000 riders logged 37 million miles in the fourth year of this online competition. Riders burned approximately 1,153,979,880 calories, saved $4,504,226 million dollars in reduced driving costs, and reduced CO2 emissions by 7,414,036 million pounds. Based on that success, PeopleForBikes is upping the ante in 2016, aiming for 100,000 riders to pedal more than 75 million miles between May 1 and September 30.

To get involved, participants simply create an account with their email address. They can log miles manually or sync with one of PeopleForBikes’ three apps: Strava, MapMyRide, or Endomondo. As riders log miles and earn points, they can see where they stack up on the leaderboards with other participants across the country. Join at https://nationalbikechallenge.org/register.
