Computer Program Assesses Street Cracks for Pothole Repair

A new computer program could eliminate the subjectivity factor in street inspections and lead to faster pothole repair. The system being developed at Carnegie Mellon University uses photographs taken by cameras mounted in city vehicles. The program evaluates the nature of developing cracks in streets to determine whether they need attention.
