Discussion - Is the term mobility outdated?

 Fellow Transportation Planners and Engineers,

I came across this great blog post from Charles Marhon with Strong Towns.  The article is great in identifying a flaw regional transportation planning (or DOTs).  The article really made me think about how we define goals for our communities.  Is mobility a word that takes a back seat to other goals regarding things like access, optimize investments, prioritize transportation intiatives, support local, and minimize fatalities?  Please let me know if you have any opinions.  Lets start a discussion on this great blog right here on the community.

Jennifer. Great question. Especially as our St. Louis MPO generates our 30 year long range transportation plan and as Missouri struggles to fund routine maintenance of our existing transportation system. No one person can provide the answer. We as a community must commit to a direction. Maintenance only? Improved Mobility? Improved Access? Some of everything? Tom
