ITE’s Professional Development Program Continues to Grow

One of the benefits of ITE membership is the opportunity for continued professional growth. In today’s rapidly changing transportation landscape, access to the latest knowledge and information is critical. Continually improving our professional development program is one of the ways that ITE helps members find solutions and grow their careers. Ensuring that the program is up-to-date and modern with the latest technology delivering current information is key to upholding ITE’s core values of being recognized, relevant, value added, and connected. Over the last several years ITE headquarters has been working to improve and enhance our offerings. Our goal is to deliver a comprehensive professional development program that includes leading-edge topics delivered through a wide range of formats: webinars, workshops, a robust Annual Meeting and Exhibit, and our leadership development program, LeadershipITE

It’s been a year since ITE launched our enhanced learning management system that powers the ITE Learning Hub, our one-stop-shop for access to ITE’s professional development offerings. New this month, ITE has worked with the Transportation Professional Certification Board to develop refresher materials for the new Road Safety Professional certification program that launches this October, as well as new refresher materials for the Professional Transportation Planner exam. Next  month, the 5th LeadershipITE class graduates. I highly encourage members to consider applying for the 2019 class and talk to graduates at the Joint ITE International and Midwestern/Great Lakes Districts Annual Meeting and Exhibit. You’ve probably noticed ITE’s Annual Meeting and Exhibit names have gotten longer. Combining ITE’s International Meeting with a District Annual Meeting—and in this year’s case, two District meetings—enables ITE to assemble a technical program that engages the diverse needs of our growing membership by leveraging both international and local perspectives.

Partnerships with members and allied groups are another important facet to offer engaging and up-to-date information. I’m pleased to announce ITE will be expanding its professional development opportunities through a new partnership with the Consortium for Innovative Transportation Education (CITE) at the University of Maryland. CITE is a unique organization of university and industry partners that believes in furthering safety and reliability goals through training and education, offering independent study courses, blended learning courses, and certificate programs. ITE and CITE are finalizing an agreement to provide ITE members access to CITE’s comprehensive offerings at a discounted price and to partner on the development and delivery of new content for these educational opportunities. Look for more information to come through all of ITE’s communications channels.

Finally, I want to thank the many ITE volunteers who identify and develop professional development topics and content through their input within our Councils and through the Coordinating Council Professional Development Committee. Your input and dedication drive the high standards that have been put into place to ensure the continued learning of our members as we face new challenges. As always, I welcome your feedback at jpaniati@ite.org, through ITE Community, and on Twitter at @JeffPaniatiITE.
