The Transportation Safety Council wishes to recognize and congratulate the recipients of the Safety Awards from the 2011 ITE Annual Meeting in St. Louis:
Transportation Achievement Award for Safety
“Teens in the Driver Seat’-” Program
The “Teens in the Driver Seat” program was developed by Texas Transportation Institute as a peer-to-peer safety program for America’s youth. The program focuses solely on traffic safety and addresses all five common risks for young drivers driving at night, distractions (such as cell phones), speeding, Low safety belt use, and alcohol. Over 500,000 students at more than 400 Texas schools have embraced the program and the states of Georgia, North Carolina, and Connecticut have recently launched related programs. The percentage of Texas teens involved in fatal crashes has dropped every year since “Teens in the Driver Seat’” began.

Juan M. Morales
Mr. Morales’ involvement in road safety started early on in his career. His work with FHWA involved him in technology transfer activities and in the development of many manuals and handbooks that we use today. Those activities continued as part of his career as Director of technical programs at ITE where he was involved in the development of documents including but not limited to Traffic Safety Toolbox, Traffic Engineering Handbook and Manual of Transportation Engineering Studies. Currently Mr. Moralis is the President of J.M. Morales & Associates and evidence of his transportation safety knowledge can be found in both the U.S. and Latin America.

Singapore Land Transport Authority
Through the pursuit of engineering, engagement, education and enforcement, the Singapore Land Transport Authority has successfully implemented transportation safety measures that have significantly reduced collision rates related to pedestrians, transit users and the general motoring public.
