Are you a transportation consultant dedicated to providing expertise to your diverse client base?  Are you looking for resources that can help you do your job better and more effectively?  Are you interested in connecting with other consultants to share lessons learned, challenges, and insights into working in this niche within the profession?  If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, then I encourage you to check out the ITE Transportation Consultants Council.

The ITE Transportation Consultants Council is one of the three employer-type councils available for participation by ITE members. These councils serve as forums for the discussion of the common interests as well as a vehicle for support of programs and projects that advance council members and the transportation profession.  This Council connects a diverse community of experts from all facets of the consulting field and promotes awareness of the broad issues facing the profession from the perspective of consultants.  The Council provides a forum to share relevant experiences and resources, offers sound guidance, and sponsors programs that advance the industry's best practices.  Topics they address include ethics, leadership, mentoring, project management, marketing, planning, traffic calming, safety, public/private sector trends, traffic engineering, mobility, transit, congestion management, livable streets, land-use context and development, and many more.  They serve a unique role in ITE by addressing virtually all issues raised by the other ITE councils and committees within the organization.

So what are the recent efforts of the Council?  At the 2016 ITE Annual Meeting, they developed a Focus Session on "The Future of Resource Documents."  They also organized and hosted a popular webinar on "Tools for Being an Effective Consultant Part 1:  Managing and Operating Small, Medium, and Large Firms" and "Tools for Being an Effective Consultant Part 2:  Marketing and Business Development," both of which are available as In Case You Missed It On-Demand Webinar Recordings.   During past meetings, they have sponsored conversation circles focused on topics specific to consultants in the profession.  The Council also sponsors the Transportation Consultants Council Distinguished Consultant Award each year.

Do you have ideas and time to contribute?  The current chair of the Transportation Consultants Council is Alf Guebert with Watt Consultant Group in Calgary.  The Council is always looking for new members and volunteers to lead new efforts from the perspective of the public sector.  If you are interested in learning more, let us know!
