ITE is pleased to be working with the National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO) and the Federal Highway Administration to offer an Urban Street Design Guide Application Workshop in Washington, DC, on November 5, 2014 at ITE Headquarters. The workshop is designed for transportation professionals and stakeholders seeking practical experience in implementing some of the Guide's design solutions.
ITE is using these workshops to provide immediate professional development and as an opportunity to collect information for the development of future technical resources. ITE's objective is to use the workshops to:

Background: The Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) in conjunction with National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO) and with support from the US DOT Federal Highway Administration will host a workshop based on the NACTO Urban Street Design Guide. Participants will analyze a corridor with a critical intersection in Washington, DC, evaluating its potential as a multimodal street, and applying interim design strategies and street typologies, as well as other topics addressed in the Guide. The design charrette format will incorporate classroom and field activities; and provide a forum for dialogue and engagement between engineers, planners and other stakeholders. The registration includes the Urban Street Design Guide, beverage breaks, and lunch.
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the course, participants should be able to:
- Apply the guidance in the field in multi-disciplinary teams to increase collaboration between traffic engineers, planners, urban designers, landscape architects in the design of urban streets;
- Enhance the opportunities to engage in dialogue amongst the stakeholders;
- Collect information to aid in achieving community design goals, while finding workable solutions to ensure safety and effective maintenance; and
- Identify technical resource gaps between the various practitioners.
